Mary A. Shahverdian is an associate attorney in the Margolis Edelstein’s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office, where she handles a broad scope of civil litigation matters, including automobile, toxic tort, and premises liability. Mary also has experience in family law, including divorce. Above all, Mary is passionate about employment law, and has worked on matters related to restrictive covenants, workplace harassment, Title VII discrimination, and other issues that frequently arise in contentious employee-employer relationships.
Prior to joining the firm, Mary was a parent advocate attorney for Allegheny County in juvenile dependency court, where she represented mothers and fathers in the foster care system who were striving for reunification. During this experience, Mary practiced strong oral advocacy for her clients in various courtroom proceedings—a skill that she continues to apply to her work at Margolis Edelstein.
Mary earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. During law school, Mary was a member of the Journal of Law and Commerce and served on the executive board as the Lead Articles Editor. In addition to her participation with the Journal, Mary also served her school as a Student Admissions Ambassador—doing her part to guide the next generation of Pitt Law grads. While in law school, Mary worked to advance the public interest in a variety of ways, including criminal defense, labor union contract negotiations, and Section 1983 claims.
Prior to law school, Mary earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh, Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.
