Practice Areas: Appellate Practice
There are times when changing horses in mid-stream makes perfect sense, and this is often true when a case finds its way to the appellate courts. While many of our attorneys have developed experience in handling litigation at both the trial court and appellate levels, appellate practice can involve a very different set of skills calling for more extensive written, as well as oral advocacy, a greater focus upon the legal issues involved, a clear sense of how an appellate court views cases, and a familiarity with what are often very intricate rules of procedure.
It is also frequently useful to bring a fresh perspective to a case, and a new set of eyes can often be helpful in analyzing a trial court’s decision, realistically evaluating the probable outcome of an appeal, and developing an effective appellate strategy.
This is where our appellate lawyers come in, whether as a resource available to others within the firm, or in assuming the future handling of a case from the post-trial stage, or the filing of a notice of appeal to its ultimate conclusion. Either way, our appellate attorneys work closely with those who handled the matter in the lower court, both to ensure a full understanding of each case, and to avoid a potentially costly duplication of effort.
Margolis Edelstein attorneys have successfully briefed and argued cases before the state and federal appellate courts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, as well as in other federal circuits from Boston to Chicago.
