Catherine S. Straggas is a Massachusetts native who has been defending individuals and corporations in civil litigation matters since 1989. She joined Margolis Edelstein in 1996 and is a partner in the Litigation Group.
Ms. Straggas currently represents commercial property owners and managers, international retailers, manufacturers, entertainment venues, event and medical staff providers in all aspects of litigation, as well as in counseling clients on risk avoidance and contract interpretation.
Ms. Straggas has served as a judge pro tempore and certified arbitrator for the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County since 2000. She has been AV rated by her peers through
Martindale Hubbell.
Prior to attending law school in Philadelphia, Ms. Straggas was a legislative assistant for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Post Office and Civil Service where she was responsible for drafting and analyzing legislation pertaining to health insurance, compensation and pension benefits for federal and postal employees and served as a staff liaison to the Congressional Women’s Caucus.
Education:
Ms. Straggas graduated cum laude in 1980 with a BA in history from Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She received her JD from Temple University School of Law in 1989, winning the Harry R. Kozart Memorial Prize for best products liability paper. Ms. Straggas was also a LEAP Instructor to Philadelphia high school seniors and clerked at the United States Attorney Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania Organized Crime Strike Force from 1987-1989.
Professional Memberships and Activities:
Ms. Straggas has been admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state and federal courts since 1989 and in Massachusetts courts since 1995.
She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute and the Harmonie Group.
Ms. Straggas is a Youth Aid Panel member in the 17th Police District of Philadelphia and teaches in the ACE program, a collaboration between the Philadelphia Bar Association and Philadelphia School District to integrate law with civics in high school.
