James R. Kahn is a senior partner and chair of the Professional Liability and Commercial Law Group in the Philadelphia office of Margolis Edelstein, where he represents attorneys in claims asserted by clients and third parties, and physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, nurses and other medical practitioners and institutions in liability and credentialing matters.  He also represents companies and individuals in real estate, estates, contracts, civil rights, collection and business disputes, and is experienced with insurance litigation, and products liability and general personal injury matters.  He provides counsel to companies regarding arbitration agreements and releases.

Mr. Kahn was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1978 and the New Jersey Bar in 1985. He is board certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell representing the highest professional and ethical standards awarded by his peers.  He was recognized as a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer” in 2010 by  Philadelphia Magazine and Law & Politics publications.

Professional Memberships and Activities:

Mr. Kahn is a member of the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, was chair of the State Civil Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, and was a Member of Governor’s Task Force on Medical Malpractice Legal Reform.  Mr. Kahn has also been appointed a Settlement Master for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, and he has served on statewide select committees for revision of evidence and discovery rules for the Pennsylvania Bar Association.  Mr. Kahn has lectured for the American Bar Association and several local bar associations and trade groups.  He is a member of the Temple Inns of Court. 

Mr. Kahn is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and before the United States Supreme Court, Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit Court and District Courts in Pennsylvania and New York.  He has written for national lawyers’ and local medical publications, and is listed in Who’s Who in America.  Mr. Kahn is the recipient of the 1993 Young Leadership Award of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and the 1994 Stella Moore Award from the Philadelphia Dance Alliance.  He is a board member of the international Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies and was formerly Board Chair of the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Philadelphia, Trustee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, founding member and Secretary of the Schuylkill River Development Council, Inc., and President of the Philadelphia Dance Alliance.
