Seth L. Laver is an associate practicing in the area of commercial litigation.  Seth focuses his practice within business litigation on bankruptcy, aviation litigation, employment and labor law, and professional liability defense; including the representation of lawyers, doctors and particularly accountants. Since joining Margolis Edelstein as an associate in April, 2006, Seth has gained experience in many areas of complex litigation.  Seth was recently recognized as a “Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star” by Philadelphia Magazine and the Institute of Law & Politics.

In the area of business litigation, Seth counsels individuals and both large and small companies in a myriad of legal matters.  Seth represents businesses in breach of contract suits; professional corporations, partnerships, and limited liability entities in lawsuits among stakeholders; and other complex business-to-business controversies.

In the area of employment and labor law, Seth represents employers in a variety of litigation matters, including sexual harassment, race, national origin, disability and age discrimination cases, wrongful discharge, defamation, and other constitutional claims.  Seth counsels employers on recognizing and preventing employment discrimination and other employee-related lawsuits, with an emphasis on the early implementation of proper procedures.  Seth drafts and updates employee handbooks and consults employers regarding compliance with company by-laws and Human Resources protocols.

In the area of bankruptcy, Seth has gained experience assisting clients in bankruptcy-related litigation as well as counseling clients on alternatives to filing for bankruptcy protection.

Professional Memberships and Activities:  

Mr. Laver is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars and is admitted to practice before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and for the District of New Jersey.  Mr. Laver has represented clients in the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and for New Jersey.  Member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, and State Civil Litigation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
 
Mr. Laver sits on the board of directors of Jewish Family and Children's Service of Greater Philadelphia and is a "Big Brother." Additionally, Mr. Laver is a member of the Committee for the Jewish Poor within the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. Other memberships include the Young Professionals Network of Philadelphia, the Louis D. Brandeis Law Society, and various other Philadelphia area civic and charitable organizations.
