Bruce Barrett began his career at Margolis Edelstein 1983 after completion of a judicial clerkship in the Superior Court of New Jersey. He has been a Partner in the firm since 1989. Bruce represents defendants in complex litigation and class actions, including professional negligence, employment discrimination, directors and officer’s liability, and construction cases. He also defends Home Owners’ Associations, and a number of financial institutions confronted with consumer and unfair trade practices matters. A portion of his practice involves insurance coverage evaluations for carriers. In addition to representing clients before the state and federal courts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Bruce also appears in administrative matters before the Division of Civil Rights, the Department of Labor, the Department of Community Affairs, and the EEOC.  Bruce’s practice includes handling cases on appeal to the New Jersey Appellate Division and Supreme Court and to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bruce has also represented local township Police Departments in false arrest/malicious prosecution matters as well as school boards confronted with allegations of Civil Rights violations.

  • Prevailed before the New Jersey Appellate Division in a case setting the standards for appeal of arbitration decisions (Mazakas vs. Wray)
  • Prevailed in an Appellate Division case establishing requirements for consumer warranty claims under the New Home Builders Registration Act (Postizzi vs. Leisure & Technology, Inc.)
  • Defeated class certification sought by mortgage borrowers under TILA, RESPA and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals (Kluge vs. Jersey Mortgage)
  • Defeated class certification in the Appellate Division in a case brought against a warranty administrator based on election of remedies (Oak Trail vs. Royal Mile Corp.
